A - Tunis Area

Tunis Area Map

Summary:

1. Medina: Great place to take time, stroll and get lost in this maze.
2. Bardo Museum: The best mosaics from all over the country are displayed in the old Bey Palace.
3. Sidi bou Said: Beautiful old village with great location, and some good restaurants with views.
4. Carthage (Kartago): If you are interested in history this is a must.
5. La Goulette: The harbor area with some good places to eat.
6. La Marsa / Gammarth: Some nice walks up and over the hill and along the beach. Great views of Gulf of Tunis and landmarks as distant as Jebel Zaghouan or Cap Bon.

There is a book ‘Plan Pratique Grand Tunis’ that has detailed maps of the Tunis area. It can be bought in most bookstores (www.plandetunis.com).

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK:

6. La Marsa / Gammarth Walks

In the Gammarth / La Marsa area there are many opportunities for beautiful walks. Aside from the obvious walks along the beaches our favorite walk started at the small ‘Toota’ supermarket in La Marsa. Walking up the hill you overlook the La Marsa beach and see landmarks around the Gulf of Tunis and on a clear day even Jebel Zaghouan some 60 km to the south.

Heading down the road past the Golden Tulip Hotel you return via the road along the coast.
